When we deliver your new countertop, it will be sealed and waxed with one coat of wax. We recommend that you continue to build the protective wax coating with additional coats of bee’s wax. This will help to season the surface and even out the sheen.
Counters should be cleaned with a mild soap and water applied with a cotton cloth.
Abrasive cleaners and detergents will rapidly remove the wax coating. Also do not use citrus-based products, as these are also extremely aggressive and will remove the wax and leave surface vulnerable to scratching and staining.
Counters should be waxed with a soft pad by rubbing in a circular motion in small areas approximately 2.5 foot by 2.5 foot before the wax has dried. Wax will begin to get hard in 10 minutes. Buffing will become more difficult as wax continues to harden.
Care in preparing acidic foods such as citrus and juices is recommended. Wood cutting boards make the best surface for preparing foods on concrete. Plastic has the potential to create chemical reaction that could break down sealers and waxes.
When acidic juices are left for a prolonged period of time, etching can occur as a light colored spot. Etching can be removed by lightly grinding the surface or using very fine abrasive wet/dry sand paper.
Kitchen and bathroom sinks should be waxed often and resealed twice a year by a professional.
Outside counters and table tops should be sealed but not waxed, as the sun will cause discoloring to the wax.
